This is a One Day Training Course
Next Courses are on:
24 March 2023.
This one-day course is perfect for learning about any new technology your car has and explaining how and when to use it in a controlled environment, technology is evolving quickly so even if you have done this course before but have purchased a new car, we highly recommend bringing your new car out on the course because your new car may react differently to your previous car. Bookings can be made individually or in groups. The practical part of the course is conducted in your own car. That way, you can maximize the opportunities to learn skills and take them away with you. You also learn how you and your car can work together in different driving situations.
Cost and Payment
The cost of the course is $390.00 including GST. The cost includes morning and afternoon tea, and a professionally catered lunch.
Payment is to be
made prior to the commencement of the course, by EFPOS, money order or by bank transfer (for bank transfer, when you contact us, we will provide you with our bank details).

The Course Location
The course is held at the Sutton Road Driver Training Complex. This complex is located 1km from the junction of Sutton rd. and Piallago Av on Sutton rd.
The Course Schedule
The course starts at 9.00am and finishes at approximately 4.30pm. Short breaks for morning and afternoon tea, and a lunch break of about 45 minutes, are provided.
The Theory Component:
This component starts with an introduction to the principles of defensive driving, during which the students are encouraged to debate the problems that they face on the road. We next examine the most common accident situations, what causes them and how they can be avoided. We like to involve the students by considering some of their recent experiences, to see if there are useful lessons to be learnt. The students are then introduced to a system of vehicle control that provides the basis for good safe driving. With technology evolving every so quickly we explain systems such as ESP and ABS and how they work before you can see and feel them in action in the practical component of the course.
The Practical Component
This component is taught in your own car and consists of three parts.
Part 1 is taught on the skid pan. Here the students learn, in a safe and controlled environment, about any new technology in your car and explain how and when to use it, and what to do when your vehicle gets into a slide.
Part 2 consists of three items taught on the circuit:
Stopping distances: first from speeds of 60km/h, and then from those of 80 km/h.
Emergency braking: a very important skill to master. (Students are often surprised to discover their lack of skill when confronted with emergency braking situations!)
Cornering: in which we first teach the use of those cornering procedures that minimize wear and tear on the vehicle. We then demonstrate correct braking and gear selection before cornering, which also saves on tire wear and improves fuel economy.
In Part 3, the students rehearse the skills that they have acquired during the day.
All students are given a certificate on the completion of the course.
Outcome
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
Identify and experience how a vehicle behaves on different road surfaces.
How to brake safely and quickly to avoid hazards.
Learn “best practice” steering, cornering, and braking methods.
Have a better understanding of road rules.
Understand how you and your car react to adverse conditions.
Understand and know your personal Driver skill Limits.
Drive within your limits and be a more observant driver.
Cancellation policy:
Cancellation made two days prior to the date of the course will be credited for use on the next available Defensive course.
Cancellation made within two days of the course will forfeit the full cost of the course.
An exception for medical conditions will be given if a doctor's certificate is presented.
